The new artist Moktar makes a strong debut with 'Silk', a new single released on Mall Grab's label, accompanied by a video clip!
Let us introduce to you Moktar, an Egyptian-Australian DJ/producer! He just released a single on Mall Grab‘s label Steel City Dance Discs. ‘Silk‘ is out now, with a video clip!
This track debuts a self-titled 5 track EP that will be released this year. It is an expansive and expressive exploration of techno and IDM. You can hear the lens of Arabic percussion and instrumentation.
With this release, he makes a statement celebrating his Arabic roots after years of struggling with racism. He embraces his Egyptian heritage after a long journey navigating racism and stereotyping growing up.
“My inspiration behind ‘Silk’ has a lot to do with my struggles growing up in Australia navigating racism. I was ashamed of being Egyptian and embarrassed by my culture. I was made to believe that being Middle Eastern only came with negative connotations throughout most of my life. ‘Silk’ represents how I feel today, to have the luxury of being comfortable and the ability to move around freely, both physically and spiritually. A constant reminder that racism is only one of many obstacles to overcome in life. I wanted to be able to share my story through my music. Today I am proud to be Egyptian”- Moktar explains
