"COLORS" marks the ninth studio album from French DJ-producer Doctor Flake, showcasing a fusion of electronic beats with traditional Maghreb, African, and Middle Eastern sounds.
Set to release on April 19, 2024, under the New Deal label, “COLORS” promises a rich tapestry of sonic exploration.
Jean Marie Leger, known as Doctor Flake, has been at the forefront of the French electronic scene since 2002, blending sampling, drum machines, and synthesizers to craft his unique sound. With eight albums under his belt between 2004 and 2022, Doctor Flake has shared stages with esteemed artists like Dj Shadow, Dj Krush, and Bonobo, to name a few.
In 2019, Doctor Flake’s creative journey took a new turn with his remix of “Cinema” (Cinema Dub version), infusing his music with faster tempos and hypnotic rhythms. Drawing from his Moroccan adventure, “TAGHAZOUT” emerges as a standout track, capturing the essence of the coastal village with layers of oud, analog synths, and percussion.
Reflecting on the creative process, Doctor Flake shares, “‘TAGHAZOUT’ was born during a trip to Morocco last year…I wanted to illustrate the repetitive aspect of the ocean at Taghazout with local instruments, resulting in a kind of psychedelic trance house between Andrew Weatherall and Acid Arab.”
“COLORS” invites listeners on a journey, blending cultural influences with contemporary electronic beats. Doctor Flake’s collaboration with Yacine El Fath forged a deep creative bond, promising exciting future endeavors.
As Doctor Flake continues to push boundaries and explore new sonic territories, “COLORS” stands as a testament to his unwavering creativity and innovative spirit.
