CTM Festival

CTM Festival

About CTM Festival

Founded in 1999, CTM – Festival for Adventurous Music and Art is a leading international festival dedicated to leftfield pop, contemporary electronic and experimental music.
Presented under a yearly theme, each edition tests the current possibilities and limits of music, and supports a wide range of artists working in the context of music and sound cultures.
The festival’s 10-day programme opens up room for unusual experiences. Cutting across genres, scenes, and disciplines, it couples first-hand experience with critical reflection, exchange, and learning.
CTM Festival gives space to a multitude of voices and perspectives. It covers a wide range of sonic and music practices, and of interdisciplinary projects that combine music, performance and visual arts with digital culture, critical theory and new technologies.
It is through this spirit, as well as its partnership with the international festival for art and digital culture, transmediale, which takes place concurrently, that CTM provides an essential meeting point for the international music community, professional visitors from diverse creative fields, and the public.
CTM Festival is an independent non-profit initiative. Beyond the festival itself, CTM offers important platforms for musicians working in Berlin and worldwide through a wealth of year-round projects.

Diversity at CTM

At the core of CTM is a desire to bring together people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, cultures, and identities. The festival takes shape every year as different lifestyles, interests, and ideas converge. A balanced, wide-ranging, and inclusive lineup is a crucial, yet constantly evolving, part of our approach.

As awareness and conversations develop, we consistently work towards making our festival as inclusive and safe as possible. This extends to people of all genders, races, ages, abilities, classes, and all other groups that often go unmentioned. We urge everyone to be considerate of others; all attendees contribute to the culture and atmosphere of the festival, and we ask everyone to consider the ways in which they participate, and the energy that they bring.

At CTM, we have a ZERO tolerance policy towards discrimination, harassment, and abuse in any form. We are always working to come up with measures we can take to ensure that our artists and attendees feel safe and welcome. That doesn’t mean we always get it right, but we do our best to make sure we learn from any feedback, incidents, or mistakes to make sure they will not happen again.

This past year, we have taken part in workshops with I-Paed, Berlin’s Initiative intersektionale Paedagogik, and are also pleased to have worked with Diana Arce as part of her White Guilt Cleanup project to ensure that our festival is as inclusive as possible. These efforts are ongoing and we look forward to continuing to learn and improve.

We are also proud to stand alongside a number of other cultural institutions, artists, and organisers as part of DIE VIELEN. The Germany-wide project aims to strengthen ties between those involved in the arts, uniting many in supporting and working towards an equal, inclusive, and open society.
