Until at least September 1st, the events without overnight stay with more than 750 visitors are prohibited in the Netherlands!
It’s a hard time for the Netherlands… the government just announced a new restriction. Events without overnight stays with more than 750 visitors will not be permitted until September 1st.
This decision is based on the current situation regarding the number of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations. These past weeks, the industry has had several dialogues with the government. Those were following the summary proceedings that the ID&T Group filed against the government on July 9, with over 40 co-plaintiffs.
Rosanne Janmaat, COO of the ID&T Group: “We are left with unanswered questions like what the capacity of 750 is based on and which parameters we can use to open up again. Why is it suddenly possible to go on vacation in Europe en masse and not to visit a larger festival in the Netherlands? For the past 1.5 years, the communication from the Dutch government has been that when everyone who wants to be vaccinated is vaccinated, we will open up again. At this stage, it is unclear to us why a decision has to be made at all for the period after September 1st, given that that is the moment when everyone could have been vaccinated. As a result, there is a lack of a sustainable policy on events.“
It is possible that the restrictions on events will be lifted or adjusted on Friday, August 13th at the press conference. the government has decided that organizers can choose to make use of the guarantee fund or to wait for possible relaxation.
The ID&T Group and its co-plaintiffs saw the decision made by the cabinet on July 9 as carelessly prepared and incorrect. The lawyer assisting ID&T c.s. have contacted the state attorney to request the OMT’s advice and the rationale for the government decision.
