In a galactic unveiling, Drumcode welcomes the electrifying debut of Space 92, a trailblazing force in the realm of techno. With his mesmerizing two-track release, 'Time,' Space 92 propels listeners on a sonic journey that defies conventions and challenges the boundaries of conventional soundscapes.
Space 92’s sonic tapestries are a revelation, weaving together a symphony of velvety harmonies, distorted percussion, and tantalizing hints of acidic undertones. Imbued with a nostalgic nod to ’90s sci-fi aesthetics, his artistry transcends time and space, leaving an indelible mark on the techno landscape. In the span of just over three years, Space 92 has notched an impressive seven Beatport no.1 hits, unleashing a cascade of musical fervor on esteemed labels such as Filth on Acid, Form Music, and 1605. Collaborations with luminaries like HI-LO, POPOF, and UMEK have further solidified his status as a prodigious talent in the techno sphere.
On the live front, Space 92’s meteoric rise continues with a groundbreaking collaborative Live/Hybrid set alongside POPOF, aptly titled ‘Popof x Space 92 Present: Turbulences’. Premiered at Ultra Music Festival Tokyo, this dynamic duo left audiences spellbound, earning them invites to headline prestigious shows at Ultra Seoul, Bali, and Miami.
Marking his inaugural release on Drumcode, ‘Time’ is an emphatic declaration of purpose. True to its name, the title track is a gradual revelation, meticulously sculpted over months of dedication between tour stops. Witness Space 92’s mastery in crafting anthems tailor-made for colossal dancefloor moments. The track unfurls with precision drum programming, building towards an exhilarating crescendo of pulsating pads, culminating in a seismic bass-laden climax that reverberates with astonishing impact.
Reflecting on the creative process, Space 92 shares, “I was constantly on tour while making ‘Time’; so, I’d work on it for a while, leave it and then come back and my mood or inspiration would have changed. ‘Time’ carries its name so well, because it literally encompasses a chunk of my life and brings back so many memories.”
‘Voyager’ emerges as a laser-focused gem, its intensity escalating with each passing stanza, culminating in a barrage of scorching bass stabs that pay a sly homage to the early ’90s rave culture.
“I was born in 1992, so I was unfortunately much too young to have known the golden age of raves. This is perhaps why I’m so attracted to this era. Nostalgia makes it look so much better than it probably was – but the sounds of that era are here with us forever,” muses Space 92.
