Will the Sony Playstation 5 be your new Ghost Producer?

A new patent for the freshly available on the shelves PlayStation 5 shows an AI that can generate a game’s music based on player performance and in-game cutscenes on the fly.

What does it means ? Well, it does not only mean that the PS5 could enhance a player’s in-game experience by generating musical soundtracks based around a given playstyle or emotion using its AI, but this feature could lead to a totally new era into music production as well.

This new patent, that Sony has called “Dynamic Music Creation in Gaming.” consists of an AI system that monitors a game’s onscreen characters, emotions being conveyed in a certain scene, or even the player’s in-game location, playstyle, and performance in order to generate the game’s soundtrack on the fly. It is not clear yes if this feature will be present in the PS5 at launch or a later time but it certainly opens a way of possibilities for “intelligent” devices to unleash creativity of a future generation of music producers.
