DJ Minx Takes Her Throne with New EP on Higher Ground house label!
Detroit’s own DJ Minx, known as the First Lady of Wax, has released a new two-track EP titled “The Throne” on house and techno label, Higher Ground. This release marks the latest chapter in her reign as one of Detroit’s most beloved figures in electronic music, which has spanned over three decades.
Despite her integral role in the development of Detroit’s music scene, it is only recently that DJ Minx has begun to receive the international recognition that she deserves. With this EP, she is taking a well-deserved seat on the throne of global electronic music culture.
The EP features the title track, “The Throne,” which boasts an industrial, Berlin-leaning energy and soulful Detroit-style chords on “Walking Tall.” Both tracks capture DJ Minx’s straight-to-the-point production style, which she has honed since her breakout release nearly 20 years ago.
“This, my friends, is one of the best musical feelings I’ve had in a long time, and I’m in my feelings bringing it to you! Welcome to my world of Detroit realness,” DJ Minx said of the EP. “It’s giving late-night, closer vibes. Let’s get into it!”
The release of “The Throne” is the latest milestone in DJ Minx’s storied career. She learned to DJ in the late 80s and held a vital residency at Motor Club before hosting long-running radio shows in the city for WGPR and CJAM. She’s been a fixture at Detroit’s Movement Festival since 2000 and has been invited back to host her own stage this year. Her Women on Wax collective and label have sought to champion Black female artists since its inception in 1996. She is also a recipient of the Spirit of Detroit Award for her contributions to the city’s cultural landscape.
With her new EP, DJ Minx cements her status as a true icon of electronic music culture. It is a testament to her talent and contribution that she has continued to inspire and innovate for over three decades, and she shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
