Ibiza 2025: Shifting Residencies, Changing Lines
Each spring, Ibiza hits refresh. Or nearly so. As clubs fine-tune their lineups and billboards once again fill the streets of the White Isle, the same question echoes: who’s playing where this summer? The 2025 season confirms a trend that’s been gaining momentum for a few years now, residencies keep switching venues, but the names on the flyers remain largely unchanged.
One notable switch this year is Defected, leaving Ushuaïa to take up residence at Pacha, after a two years stop over at EDEN, returning to a more classic setting that fits its long-standing identity. And it doesn’t stop there.
Another significant moves is Jamie Jones’ Paradise, which exits Amnesia after a fruitful three-year stint. Its new home? UNVRS, the revamped and renamed Privilege, now reintroduced to the world as what its creators are calling the first hyperclub.
elrow, previously at Amnesia, is also heading to UNVRS, a natural fit for its oversized stage productions and mainstream appeal. Another major player on the move is Eric Prydz, leaving his “CELL” concept behind at Hï Ibiza to debut a new show, “Holosphere,” also at UNVRS. David Guetta follows the same path, replacing “Future Rave” with a new production titled “Galactic Circus.” And FISHER joins the exodus, departing Hï to take up residency at the former Privilege.
A Shake-up Among the Big Players
These departures create key opportunities elsewhere. Hï Ibiza, far from losing steam, seizes the moment to reshape its offer. Dom Dolla, previously playing at Ushuaïa, now moves into the Hï main room. Joseph Capriati shifts his Metamorfosi residency from Amnesia to Hï, a move that brings him closer to Playa d’en Bossa’s more younger crowd.
Sonny Fodera, who had a brief Amnesia stint in 2024, follows suit. Another addition: Blond:ish, whose hybrid vision of spirituality and digital groove finds a fitting home at Pacha.
With the departure of Paradise, elrow, Sonny Fodera, and Capriati, Amnesia seemed to face a shortage of heavyweight residencies. But the club responded quickly. The arrival of Resistance, in partnership with Ultra Miami, is a major win. Rising UK star Ben Hemsley earns a full residency, while Boiler Room and Mixmag Lab both launch their first weekly takeovers on the island. Amnesia also makes space for new formats : Eastenderz brings in its signature refined minimal sounds.
Mid-Sized Venues Reclaim Space
More low-key but strategically placed, Club Chinois in Marina Botafoch is making moves of its own. It welcomes back two familiar faces: Claptone, moving from Amnesia, and Bedouin, whose “Saga” previously lived at Pacha. Also joining the Chinois family is Francis Mercier, landing his very first Ibiza residency.
Over at Cova Santa, long seen as a space for experimentation, some names drop off the roster for 2025. MËSTIZA jumps ship to Hï, while Eastenderz makes its move to Amnesia. In return, Cova Santa introduces Pantheøn every Sunday and launches a new artistic residency curated by Ibán Mendoza, titled Gala. Both projects aim to push immersive, sensorial formats in line with the venue’s recent ethos.
What These Moves Reveal
Beyond the headlines, these reshuffles reveal two clear dynamics. First: consolidation. The big headliners now rotate between a limited number of venues, as if Ibiza had become a closed circuit of interchangeable residencies. In both July and August, Ushuaïa doubles down on Calvin Harris, giving him two nights a week instead of using that space to introduce another talent, a telling choice that reflects the industry’s current logic.
Second: a lack of new names at the top. With a few exceptions (Francis Mercier at Chinois, Ben Hemsley at Amnesia, and Boiler Room unveiling a different artist each week), most clubs continue betting on the same familiar acts that appeal to the global market.
Since cities like Las Vegas, Dubai and most of the south Europe summer destination spots borrow heavily from Ibiza’s playbook, what happens if Ibiza itself stops innovating? The risk is a global nightlife culture that becomes predictable, a polished loop with no edge.
Ibiza used to be where new stories began. Surprising aesthetics. Hybrid formats. Unexpected collaborations between genres, generations, and crews.
In Search of a New Cycle?
The most iconic residencies of the past : Cocoon (20 years at Amnesia), Carl Cox (15 at Space), Manumission (13 at Privilege), We Love Sundays (17 at Space), Circoloco (26 and counting at DC10), built their legends not only through longevity, but by creating entire worlds of their own.
Ibiza has never just been a destination, it’s always been an artistic statement.
So when will the next wave of visionary residencies emerge?
Where’s the island’s singular creative energy which always shaped global dance and electronic music culture?
Maybe it’s up to us clubbers to decide.
So which artist or residency do you think deserves to start the next Ibiza chapter?
