Jaguar Bingham, the renowned DJ, broadcaster, and selector, has announced the launch of her new record label, UTOPIA.
The label’s monthly releases will showcase the freshest new club tracks from a new generation of electronic creators, personally curated by Jaguar, a key figure in the dance music scene.
Van Damn, a regular on the Scottish club scene, is the first artist to feature on the label with his certified dancefloor weapon ‘Can’t Grumble.’ The track features a springy bassline and classic house cues, and has already been a staple in Jaguar’s sets, including her 2021 Boiler Room and most recent Mixmag Lab.
Jaguar’s relentless passion for breaking barriers for boundary-pushing young talent is the driving force behind UTOPIA, which originally started as a club night back in 2020 before evolving into a community for emerging artists and music lovers. The label’s releases, set to drop throughout 2023, will capture a diverse cast of talent and tell the stories of a range of accomplished and exciting new artists.
As a leading figure in dance music, Jaguar is also the host of BBC Introducing Dance on Radio 1 and Mixmag’s “Broadcaster of 2021.” She has long been committed to exploring the cultural, political, and creative sides of global electronic music scenes and is known for championing minorities in the industry. In 2020, she launched Future1000 with Virtuoso, a free, online initiative that provides women, trans, and non-binary people aged 12 to 18 with an accessible way to learn to DJ.
Jaguar’s passion for emerging artists has led her to create the Jaguar Foundation, which authored last year’s research report highlighting gender disparity in dance music. Speaking on the launch of UTOPIA, Jaguar said :
“Championing emerging artists and introducing their music to the world is my favourite thing in the world, and I hope UTOPIA becomes a place people will turn to discover their new favourite club tracks. I’m obsessed with every single release that we’ve signed, and I hope that you are too!”
Jaguar’s new record label comes hot off the back of her announcement of a four-date UTOPIA residency at Brixton’s new underground venue, Ton Of Brix. The residency will showcase world-renowned DJs alongside the most exciting up-and-coming names across the four nights in May and June. The residency will have four themes, representing the diverse and rich community that UTOPIA has been cultivating.
Jaguar’s passion for championing new talent and breaking down barriers in the industry makes UTOPIA a label to watch for anyone interested in the future of electronic music.
