About Le Loup
Le Loup is one of the most prominent names to have emerged from the new generation of Parisian talent that sprung up during the late 2000s. Renowned for his warm, groove-led productions and avant-garde sound, he has established a sterling reputation both on the decks and in the studio. A lover of Detroit techno, funk, jazz, and hip-hop, his style was inspired by the first and second wave of Detroit and Chicago pioneers expertly drawing on all facets of house music, hip hop and jazz to create his own fresh and distinct sound. With the launch of his label Shadow Play, Le Loup has added a further string to his bow, exploring his A&R capabilities and showcasing his curatorial skills. A talented DJ and producer with a style all of his own, Le Loup is a consistent force in the underground scene…
Le Loup was snapped up by New York party starters Wolf + Lamb before his 21st birthday to release his debut EP ‘See Line’ back in 2009. As his production style evolved, further notable productions came on imprints such as Eklo, which was home to his first double vinyl EP ‘4 My Homie’. These early releases established Le Loup as a purveyor of high quality house music with a unique touch, drawing on a variety of influences to cultivate his own sonic identity.
In 2011 Le Loup launched Hold Youth with close friend Seuil, a vinyl-only label with an open-minded ethos, releasing music for DJs, collectors and true music lovers. The label has been an outlet for releases from some of the scene’s best-known luminaries as well as up and coming artists together with the duo’s own material. Also developing the Hold Youth ethos into a DJing partnership, the pair have delivered their sultry sounds at a variety of influential venues around the world including a residency at the infamous Rex Club in their hometown, Paris.
Also highly regarded as a solo DJ Le Loup has worked his magic for an extensive list of the world’s most respected dance floors including regular slots for the hedonistic London crew Half Baked, where he is a resident. Le Loup also held down a three-year residency at Paris hotspot Badaboum for their ‘Circle’ night alongside Mouloud.
Constantly investing his energy into uncovering old gems and fresh new talent, Le Loup recently transferred his A&R skills into launching his own label Shadow Play, a platform which supports music from himself and his close friends. Inspired by Le Loup’s love of art and jazz, he conceived the label with partner in crime Pura in 2016. The aim is to release music from friends and artists who inspire them, with the catalogue so far comprised releases from Le Loup himself, a stunning collab with Chris Carrier plus a superb reissue from nineties hero Scott Edward, with lots more forthcoming.
With a new solo EP due very soon and a clear, impassioned focus on his key projects, together with a busy tour schedule, Le Loup remains one of the jewels in Paris’ crown an artist who has matured from fresh-faced, aspiring artist into a lifelong member of the underground elite.
