On the 25th of November, Cuban-born, Miami-based producer, DJ, and label head Malóne releases ‘Late at Night’ via his Hurry Up Slowly imprint. It's a huge afro house tune!
Cuban-born, Miami-based producer, DJ, and label head Malóne releases ‘Late at Night’ via his Hurry Up Slowly imprint. Malóne has had a watershed year, with two tracks, ‘Muy Bien’ and ‘Besame’, reaching #1 on Beatport’s Afro House chart. Woman of the hour Hannah Boleyn contributes vocals for the record, as the two join forces to shut down 2022 in style.
Malóne has put out records on labels such as Saved, Abracadabra, Toolroom, Made in Miami, and Insomniac, but most noteworthy is his own imprint, Hurry Up Slowly, which he co-founded with brother-duo Calussa in 2021. The label has released thirteen tracks in 2022 which charted top 10 on Beatport’s Afro House chart.
Malóne reached out to UK singer-songwriter Hannah Boleyn via Instagram after a follower recommended the two work together. Hannah has been collaborating with some of the biggest producers in dance music, from John Summit to Michael Calfan. Her emotional lyrics and robust vocal delivery are a perfect fit for the powerful, melodic production Malóne delivers on this track.
‘Late at Night’ begins with busy, bouncy percussion, before Malóne layers in dark, mysterious chord progressions. The track then breaks down – as all percussion fades, the rich, blissful melodic soundscape is highlighted. When Hannah’s muddled vocals are introduced, an eeriness arises. Hannah sings “I get high / Every night” over synth notes crescendoing into an energetic climax. Reincorporating percussion, Malóne keeps the energy high for the remainder of the track, delivering a soulful, invigorating rhythm.
Regarding the project, Malóne said: “For my last release of 2022, I wanted to finish the year with a more melodic and emotional style of track. Fitting for the fall and this time of year around Art Basel. ‘Late At Night’ is like the final chapter of the story which was 2022, and I feel like I am ending it properly with this record.”
This release comes amongst a very exciting time for Malóne and Hurry Up Slowly. The label is putting on a four-day event during Miami Art Basel, featuring headliners BLOND:ISH, Camelphat, Gordo, the Martinez Brothers, and Malóne himself. Malóne is making his final sprint of 2022, with shows in Montreal, Boston, Washington DC, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Fort Lauderdale, before finishing his North American tour with three dates in his hometown of Miami to wrap up the year.
