On June 29, 2000, EXIT Noise Summer Fest was launched in the park of the University of Novi Sad with performances by Urban Guerrilla.
20 years ago, an incredible concept was born. A group of students wanted to create a movement for peace and freedom in Serbia and the Balkans. This festival was almost 100 days of free concerts, parties, performances, film screenings, exhibitions, tribunes, and performances. For the occasion, great artists were there. Among them: Urban Guerrilla and DJ Fakir played unique performances.
A great evolution
At the beginning, the festival only had two stages. One called “Šuma” (Wood), located in the park and where you would find the concerts. While the second one, “Reka” (River), was on Danube’s bank, where the best local DJs performed. At that time, nobody knew that the following year, those scenes would become Main Stage and the Dance Arena. And no one could even less imagine this event would be one of the biggest international music festivals at the iconic Petrovaradin Fortress.
Numerous prizes have been awarded to this event
Since then, EXIT Festival has drawn the world’s leading medias attention such as BBC, CNN, The Guardian, The Times. It has even been qualified as “one of the most prestigious festivals in the world”. Plus, EXIT was officially proclaimed “Best Major European Festival” at the EU Festival Awards 2013 and 2017. Without forgetting that EXIT’s Montenegrin edition Sea Dance Festival won the “Best Mid-Sized European festival” award in 2015. In all, this event has been highly rewarded and today it is one of the most eagerly awaited events in the world.
EXIT is also strongly engaged
Furthermore, the purpose of this festival is not only to have fun. Indeed, EXIT team focuses on social activism and organized over 1000 activities, actions, campaigns and projects in last two decades. More than that, humanitarian projects have their place, too. For instance, a football match took place in 2014, aiming to raise funds for the construction of a Niš clinical ward for children with cancer. For the occasion, they managed to raise over 120,000 euros. Last year, the team even started the new environmental platform Green, to help planting trees and preserving the environment.
The festival hosted great artists
For the last 20 years, EXIT hosted some of the leading names of the international music scene. Among them: The Prodigy, The Cure, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, David Guetta, as well as Skrillex, Migos, and lots of others.
Next to come this year
From 13 to 16 August 2020, EXIT Festival will take place at the Petrovaradin Fortress, after the Serbian Prime Minister request to postpone it instead of cancelling it. Of course, everything will comply with health and government guidelines. In that way, the organizers will limite to 50% number of attendees, in an area that can hold at least 90% of its usual capacity.
Incredible artists will perform, including Robin Schulz, Amelie Lens, Paul Kalkbrenner, Nina Kraviz, and way more talented ones will be announced soon.
Be ready to have fun again in August!
