The Success Of Sónar Lisboa 2024 : Istanbul & Barcelona editions Await!

Post Image

Sónar Lisboa recently concluded its third edition with resounding success, showcasing a fusion of international electronic music artists and prominent figures from Portugal’s contemporary music scene. From March 22 to March 24 at Parque Eduardo VII in the heart of Lisbon,  the event attracted enthusiasts from around the globe, marking itself as a significant fixture on Sónar’s annual calendar.

Sónar Lisboa 2024 featured 54 musical performances at the Pavilhão Carlos Lopes, highlighting diverse artists from 16 countries. With attendance reaching 19,500 festival-goers from over 50 countries, including Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Germany, Lisbon transformed into a melting pot of musical exploration over the three-day event.

Attendees were treated to an array of performances by renowned artists who will also be part of the stages of Sónar 2024 in Barcelona the following month of June. With artists hailing from 16 countries and attendees representing 53 nations, Sónar Lisboa celebrated diversity on both the stage and the dance floor. Among them were Paul Kalkbrenner with his captivating A/V live show, Sevdaliza presenting innovative AI-based experiments, Marie Davidson’s distinctive post-techno style, TOMMY CASH’s boundary-pushing hyperpop-trap fusion, DJ Gigola’s next-gen rave beats, and Eliza Rose’s infectious UK and US garage rhythms.

Further highlights encompassed performances by Oneohtrix Point Never, Shygirl, Tiga & Hudson Mohawke, Wata Igarashi, Perel, and others, showcasing a diverse range of electronic music genres and styles.

In 2024, Sónar enhanced the festival experience with its Sónar by Day program spread across two outdoor and one indoor stage, while the Sónar by Night program took place indoors at the Pavilhão Carlos Lopes. Additionally, the outdoor areas were expanded, accommodating a new food court and upgraded services, further enriching the overall festival ambiance.

Sónar has also been instrumental in showcasing the vibrant local music scene, featuring artists who shape the contemporary sound of Lisbon. Notable performances included Branko’s live debut of his new album, Vanyfox’s batida beats, Yen Sung b2b Photonz’s classic house music, and DJ Lynce’s eclectic mix of breakbeat, rave, and jungle.

Moreover, the festival’s Estufa Fria venue hosted the installation ‘LIMBIC LANDMARKS’ by Lisbon-based art collective ZABRA, offering attendees a multi-sensory experience exploring emotional and geographical landmarks. The venue also hosted Future Days, a series of conferences and workshops discussing the future of urban living.

Following its success in Lisbon, Sónar will continue its global journey, with Istanbul as the next stop on April 26-28 at the Zorlu PSM Performing Arts Centre. This will mark the festival’s eighth consecutive year in the city, further extending its reach across the globe.
