The star of the British grime and R&B from London is coming to Sónar Festival 2019 after ASAP Rocky had to cancel his entire European tour due to some issue in Stockholm.
Stormzy will headline the main stage at Sónar, this Friday 19th July instead of ASAP Rocky.
After Stormzy’s fast-growing success, there is no surprise he has been chosen to replace ASAP, for this year Sónar Festival.
In only a few years, Micheal Omari (Stormzy’s actual name) evolved so quickly his career by achieving some of the big historical moments, including being the author of a first grime album, which hit the top chart in the UK, to be the first solo black British artist to play at Glastonbury Festival and the first ‘freestyle to do the same’ with the anthem “Shut Up”.
In the past Sónar has already for the first time invited the artist back in 2016, to perform at SónarPub. Therefore, there is no surprise after his quick career development, this time he is invited again to play at the main stage.
Sónar Festival is taking place every year on 17 – 20 July in Barcelona, where it presents more than 140 performances by artists from all over the world. Each edition of the Barcelona Music, Creativity and Technology Festival, combines all the ‘global stars of dance music and urban beats with artistic exploration on the geographical and sonic fringes of electronica.’
This is a huge opportunity for Stormzy to join the most world-renowned artists, including Bad Bunny, Arca, Holly Herndon, Dixon, Disclosure, Underworld and many more.
