David Guetta talked to 40 journalists about his #1 ranking on the DJ MAG TOP 100, his worries about covid and the Future Rave sound!
To Covid problems, virtual solutions… This week, a press conference with David Guetta was held via Zoom.
David had indeed spent a wicked weekend-anniversary with his #1 ranking on the DJ Mag TOP 100 and his performance at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
More than 40 journalists from all over the world asked him questions during almost 2 straight hours, talking about the Covid situation, Future rave, Ibiza and coming back to his underground roots.
Here is a selection of quotes on the topics discussed :
Covid-19 :
” Covid made the social differences much bigger. Rich people got richer.” “In our industry, some people had enough money to put on a show had the ability to have more visibility. But again, we need to be honest, before I did the show in Miami, no one has invested anything to do a real show. People had used their iPhones to film themselves in their bedroom and I’m talking about some very rich DJs. So it’s not only about the money, its a personal investment.”
“For the very big DJs, it won’t be a problem. They will be the first ones to be called by festivals when everything goes back to normal”
“The thing that worries me the most is the Underground DJs. They are very important in our culture, they’re not famous because of their production. They’re famous because of their selection, of being influential in the style of music that they play. They get famous by people going to their parties, going to the after, talking about it to their friends, talking about it on the blogs, and giving a reputation to these DJs. This worries me because those DJs are important to our culture. I’m a little bit scared that if this goes on for one more year, people won’t speak about them.”
Ibiza :
“This is a crowd that is open for me to not only play my hits but also to play new style of music. This is always been a huge source of inspiration. I do most of my shows on festivals, concerts but I always kept Ibiza as a laboratory.”
Producing a hit :
” There is always a way to crack the code and find the perfect balance and using the ingredients of underground, that has became trendy but make in a way that is more musical. A hit is usually a combination of new sounds with a killer melody.”
Future Rave :
” If I look at underground music, I absolutely love melodic techno because to me it captures the emotions of Trance with a cool factor of techno. Thats what we are doing with Future Rave. I took classics of Trance or Underground techno records and remix them so I could make them fit with the Future Rave sounds.”
