Did you know that festivals in the United Kingdom produces 23,500 tons of waste – totalling 10 million plastic bottles consumed per year? With that, 5 million liters of fuel emits almost 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, expecting there to be more plastic than fish in our oceans by 2050. That is not good for our environment at all.
So, the International Music Summit in Ibiza decided to address this.
One of their panels is entitled “Bye Bye To Plastics – How The Music Industry Can Evolve Together For A Greener Future,” with the panels including Claire O’Neill, Jolyon Klean, Karin Koopmans, Sandra Benbeniste, Vivie-Ann Bakos, Zak Day, and moderated by Mark Lawrence.
According to Vivie-Ann Bakos, artist of Blond:ish and part of Bye Bye Plastic Canada, ”We want to remove single-use plastics from the music industry. Think about small actionable stuff that we can actually get people to do. Let’s change our hospitality riders to be plastic free. The whole point is that we make these tiny steps so we can then move onto the next layer.”
This panel will discuss how artists can encourage hospitality riders to become plastic free, taking small steps to make an impact like waste segregation and reduction of eating beef.
In anticipation of this panel, why don’t you tell us how you think festivalgoers can also make a difference in their party experience to help save the environment?
