For the first time in the history of Tomorrowland, a digital edition was set and proved to be a great success. Here are a few numbers:
This weekend, Tomorrowland Around the World took place in the magnificent Pāpiliōnem island. People from all around the globe have come together virtually to listen have fun while staying home. They listened to more than 60 of the world’s most prominent artists on 8 different stages. The concept was pretty simple: they could navigate wherever they wanted on the island and click on the stages to participate in the concerts. At any time, they could have access to the line-up and thus plan their party program.
Here are some significant numbers
First, there were more than 1 million viewers. From Japan to Mexico and Iceland, the People of Tomorrow came from the four corners of the earth. In all, Tomorrowland has built 4 large green screen studios located in Belgium, in The USA, Brazil and Australia. In that way, all the artists have recorded their performances in those studios. Among the superstars making this event possible, there were Katy Perry, David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki, to name a few.
For those who might wonder, there were up to 38 virtual HD cameras filming this event. And for the record, the digital 3D environment of Tomorrowland Around the World has 10 times more polygons and lights compared to a modern computer game.
More than that, all festival visitors had access to a digital library during the event. They could look for 10 books with quiz questions about Tomorrowland. Fun fact: the virtual library was inspired by the magical Nottebohm Room in the Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library in Antwerp.
Another interesting information: TML by Tomorrowland used recycled PET cups collected at the 2019 edition. Indeed, the Belgian based startup Yuma Labs has designed 3D printed sunglasses, crafted from 100% recycled plastic of which 50% recycled PET cups collected at Tomorrowland 2019.
Finally, of all this has been possible thanks to the team of 200 passionate people. They worked hard to organize Tomorrowland Around the World in 3 months, while such a big event usually takes 2 years to organize!
If you’ve bought a weekend ticket, do not hesitate to revisit the island and enjoy all the individual DJ sets for two weeks from Wednesday July 29. And if you didn’t, don’t worry. You can still buy a separate ticket for the Relive platform (€ 12,50), clicking here.
