A State of Trance marked its 25th anniversary in Rotterdam with 20,000 fans gathering for the opening night of a milestone weekend dedicated to the evolution of trance music.

What began as a weekly radio broadcast has grown into one of electronic music’s most influential global brands. The anniversary event reflected that journey, bringing together artists who shaped the early ASOT sound alongside names representing its current and future directions.

Ferry Corsten, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Mauro Picotto, Ruben de Ronde and SUPERSTRINGS were among the artists contributing to a line-up that honored trance’s foundations while pushing its spectrum forward.

At the heart of the night stood Armin van Buuren. His five-hour headline set unfolded as a carefully constructed journey through 25 years of trance — revisiting defining tracks, emotional peaks and stylistic shifts that have marked the genre’s evolution.

During the performance, van Buuren revealed that A State of Trance will return to Ibiza this summer with a brand-new residency at UNVRS. As part of the anniversary celebrations, he confirmed he will perform five extended five-hour sets throughout the season, diving deep into the ASOT catalog and concept.

Beyond the mainstage, the weekend expands with daytime programming, including interactive sessions, production-focused experiences and artist-led discussions. The closing night continues the generational bridge with performances spanning classic trance, modern interpretations and crossover sounds.

Today, A State of Trance is broadcast in 84 countries and has hosted more than 100 events across five continents. The Rotterdam flagship remains its symbolic core — a large-scale production that brings together tens of thousands of fans from around the world.

At 25 years, ASOT stands as both a historical landmark and a living platform. Its anniversary edition not only celebrates its legacy but also signals the next chapter for trance on a global scale.
