Values
Sziget Festival was founded 25 years ago to create a temporary “dream nation” that celebrates different cultures throughout the globe. The organizers value freedom of thought and lifestyle, sexual orientation, religion, speech, and the right to equal knowledge and learning.
Sziget Festival now features the Love Revolution, which celebrates getting together to do something good for the world. Through the love revolution, Sziget aims to “Live in a peaceful world without wars and nuclear threats,” “share an environment where no one can be discriminated or insulted based on their skin color, religion or sexual identity,” “place sustainability and environmental protection at the heart of our daily lives,” and “respect everyone’s human rights regardless of their origin.”

As for Superar, the initiative aims to empower children and young people who are in underprivileged conditions to make music despite their socio-economic boundaries. Superar believes that education promotes a variety of outcomes, so what they do is cultivate community, communication skills, consideration for others, tolerance, and the ability to accept criticism through their program that has regular choir classes, regular instrumental classes, summer camps for local children, international summer camps, professional music productions, public concerts, and trainings for staff. Since it started, Superar has helped out more than 2000 children in about 27 different nations in Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, Bosnia, Romania, and Liechtenstein.

Green Initiatives
Sziget Festival is truly a celebration of numerous aspects and specifications about the world, one particular important belief of theirs gives value to saving our mother earth.
One of Love Revolution’s main message is about environmental consciousness and sustainable development. This year, Sziget is giving out their drinks in reusable cups. They also make sure that they only provide straws upon request to limit the use of plastic. In addition, recycling programs will be present to rid the area of 150 cubic meters of waste. In their words, “We will be able to reuse about 30-40% of the waste produced during the event. This year there will be a study about the Óbudai Sziget’s environmental condition, and the Festival’s effect. Based on our analysis, we will make suggestions to improve and expand green areas.”
But, what Sziget highlights most is an ecocamping area that can host 200 people. This ecocamping area, which is powered by E.ON, is powered by solar energy. Every resident will get a flask, cigarette stub collector, and trash bag. They will also get breakfast and lunch made of fresh produce and ingredients that are served with biodegradable materials for the community on the campgrounds.
