Exploring the growing trend of DJs taking action to reduce their carbon footprint, we take a look at GOGO GREEN, a collective of DJs who promote joyful and desirable ecology through alternative electronic music events and a yearly "Bike to Basics" tour along the Atlantic coast.
In 2019, the French collective GOGO GREEN was born with a mission to promote a joyful and desirable form of ecology through partying. Started with three DJs – Studio Yoyote and Viv – GOGO GREEN encourages its audiences to question and connect with one another in welcoming spaces through alternative electronic music events. Joined by Camille Doe, Lefblom and AMS, the crew’s infectious house music not only brings the party to life, but it also aligns with the eco-values they fiercely advocate for.
As the community continues to grow, GOGO GREEN has partnered with various climate action groups such as Alternatiba, l’Académie du Climat, Yes We Camp, Surfrider Foundation, the Conscious Festival, and Emmaüs to mutually support each other and spread their message to a wider audience. The collective’s message is clear: “party for all, simply.”
The collective’s “Bike to Basics” tour is another initiative that showcases their commitment to sustainability. Every summer, GOGO GREEN embarks on a week-long bike tour, cycling along the Atlantic coast from one party to the next. Audiences are welcome to join in for the full trip or just a single party.
This year’s itinerary includes Bordeaux, Sainte-Eulalie En Born, Moliets-Et-Maa, Hossegor, Anglet, and Biarritz from July 29th to August 6th. Starting from Iboat in Bordeaux, the tour promotes the use of sustainable transportation and encourages the music industry to implement sustainable development strategies.
GOGO GREEN has chosen the bike as its mode of transportation to promote eco-tourism and the use of gentle mobility. The itinerary includes multiple stops for partying, group or sports activities, and meetings with local nature preservation associations. The adventure is open to all so that everyone can participate and organize their vacations under the sign of simple pleasures, nature, and celebration.
GOGO GREEN has also developed a charitable aspect to its events by offering to perform for elderly residents in care homes. Since August 2021, the collective has occupied the basement of La Gare Jazz “Le Gore” for a Sunday night residency, adapting to all musical desires with its artists’ wide range of DJ sets – from indie dance to house and techno – allowing them to perform at all dancefloors and sign with renowned labels such as Nervous Records, Toolroom, Disco Halal, and Shall Not Fade.
GOGO GREEN is an inspiring example of how DJs and music collectives can take action to reduce their carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices within the industry.
