Created by artist Ciaran McCusker, the clip of Honey Dijon 's 'Downtown' is the latest in the series, set in a fantastic underground utopia!
The new single ‘Downtown‘ is taken from her upcoming album ‘Black Girl Magic‘. The DJ and producer Honey Dijon delivers the last part of a video trilogy that accompanied the first three singles of the LP.
‘Downtown’ starring Annette Bowen and Nikki-O follows ‘Not About You’ with Hadiya George and ‘The Fantastic Woman’ with Josh Caffe. Created by artist and animator Ciaran McCusker, the series takes place in a fantastical underground utopia where Honey reigns supreme, queer people live as freely as they wish, and sexuality is explored without inhibition.
In this latest video, a protagonist representing toxic masculinity has his eyes opened to a world where hetero-normative boundaries do not exist. Guided by two clubbers, he embraces nonconformity and underground glamour, echoing the track’s lyrics, “The underground is where I want to go, forget your worries and troubles.”
The record features London soul singer Annette Bowen and Moodymann collaborator Nikki-O, who deliver a gorgeous topline that pairs beautifully with Honey’s seamless production. Floating synths and crisp percussion transport us to the dance floor. “Downtown”, is reminiscent of good House’s classics.
“With ‘Downtown’, I wanted to tell a story like it’s never been done before in dance music. I’ve never seen queer culture brought to life before and I wanted to do that in the most artistic way possible. In my opinion, the queer community has always advanced the mainstream. I wanted the videos to be sexual and fun. Videographer Ciaran McCusker captured the essence of my vision perfectly.” explained Honey Dijon
