One person has died and five others have been injured following a shooting in the early hours of Sunday, August 30, near the Aarauer Rave in Aarau, Switzerland.
Several shots were fired shortly before 3am at the Schachen racecourse in Aarau, where the annual techno event had taken place on Saturday.
According to Aargau cantonal police, one person was killed and five others were injured, some seriously. The person or people responsible for the shooting had not been identified at the time of writing, and a large-scale police operation remained underway.
The Aarauer Rave had gathered around 3,500 people at the racecourse, with the event scheduled from 3pm on Saturday until 2am on Sunday.
Police said several shots were fired among a large group of people. Authorities have not yet established the motive or the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and have asked the public to stay away from the area while investigations continue.
Police are also asking anyone who may have photos or video footage from the area to provide them to investigators.
Early witness accounts circulating in Swiss media contain additional claims about the number of shooters and what happened immediately before the shooting, but these details have not been confirmed by authorities.
The investigation is ongoing and further information is expected from Aargau cantonal police.
