The trance DJ and producer appeared as a surprise “Mystery Queen” on Dutch show Make Up Your Mind, using the moment to promote dancefloors where everyone can feel free and safe to be themselves.

Armin van Buuren swapped the DJ booth for the runway for one night. The Dutch artist appeared in drag on Make Up Your Mind, an RTL4 show that sees celebrities transform into drag queens before taking to the runway in front of a judging panel. Van Buuren appeared as surprise “Mystery Queen” Daisy Bell.
Beyond the TV reveal, however, Van Buuren wanted the appearance to carry a message. In a video shared around the show, he encouraged people to party around the world while remaining free to be themselves: “Be who you want to be. Feel free, feel safe.”
The A State Of Trance founder later explained that his participation was about more than dressing up or surprising people. He said he wanted to support something he genuinely believes in: that everyone should feel safe being themselves, while describing music and dance as spaces for freedom, expression and connection.
It is a simple statement, but one that fits particularly well with what dancefloors have long claimed to represent: places where people can experiment, express themselves and exist without having to fit into a predetermined box.
