Sexual Violence in Nightlife: What’s Happening in France?
Last week, DJ Fantasm published a video claiming he’s being harassed by the techno community for acts he asserts he didn’t commit. Ironically, his statement has since sparked a wave of testimonies from victims (of various DJs and promoters), as associations and media partners report receiving an unprecedented influx of messages. This paradoxical outcome seems to have finally broken a long-standing silence surrounding sexual violence in the nightlife scene.
Today, we’re offering our perspective on the widespread nature of sexual harassment and assault in clubbing environments, and the persistent culture of silence in France and elsewhere.
Since 2020, members of our team have been actively involved in supporting victims. While we maintain anonymity for obvious reasons, here’s a snapshot of what we’ve encountered:
A lesbian DJ and event organizer accused by multiple victims whose testimonies were shared with a major media outlet: nothing published, no consequences. Both accused individuals continue their careers unaffected.
A prominent hard techno DJ accused of using GHB to sexually assault women. Victims remain silent due to fear and guilt; he continues to thrive professionally.
Multiple hard techno DJs implicated in domestic violence incidents, protected by their entourage and continuing to be booked regularly, with careers intact.
To better understand the scale of this issue, consider these high-profile cases:
Erick Morillo, who passed away before trial. Despite chilling testimonies from his victim (Kristen Knight) and DJ Ida Engberg, peers continue to honor his legacy.
Arnaud Rebotini, who continued performing after numerous public allegations.
Derrick May, whose multiple alleged victims were exposed by journalist Annabel Ross, who subsequently faced harassment and threats.
Paul Oakenfold, accused of sexual misconduct, a case still ongoing in 2024 with minimal career impact.
Guy Gerber, facing allegations in Ibiza but remaining prominent on global line-ups.
Reflect on these cases, then reconsider your views on “cancel culture.” These aren’t isolated incidents, they illustrate systemic problems.
Another critical issue: victim-blaming. Being intoxicated during an assault isn’t a mitigating circumstance for the perpetrator; it’s an aggravating factor. Victims should never feel shame.
As millennials, we now realize that many “shameful nights” from our past were, in reality, nights of assault. This realization is painful but essential.
Perpetrators are often shielded by multiple layers of protection: their crews, management, friends, fans, and money. Victims, often without resources, face immense challenges. However, we now witness growing strength and resolve among survivors who refuse to remain silent. We applaud these brave women (and sometimes men) who speak out and recognize that something unacceptable has occurred.
How can we support victims more effectively? The answer is organization and solidarity: associations, legal defense, and media cooperation. Lawyers can guide and prepare victims through the reporting process, equipping them legally and emotionally. Community solidarity is essential: active listening, practical support, and unwavering encouragement.
To professionals in the nightlife industry: stop sharing line-ups with accused individuals, spread prevention messages, and cease protecting guilty friends. It’s time to take a stand.
Fantasm’s video unintentionally triggered an unprecedented movement in France. Never before have actors in the scene organized so powerfully and clearly. It’s vital we sustain this momentum, let’s not let the fire go out.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.
I CAN'T GET NO SLEEP
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English.
Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
